Accessible websites are important not only for individuals and society as a whole it is also necessary for community engagement. ADA compliance requires schools to provide equal access to people with disabilities on their websites. The difficulty for school districts is identifying precisely what they need to change on their site and how to go about it.

Appomattox County Public Schools (VA) chose to be proactive and improve their site to meet accessibility standards. The district reviewed their needs, assessed the changes required, and decided to move to the Web Community Manager to deliver an accessible experience to their community. The district went from having a website with accessibility challenges, to a site where the CMS, template, and content provided equal access to all visitors.
