We're proud of our open, dynamic platform, and we want to co-create what's next with you.

It's as easy as 1-2-3

1. Let us know you're in
Fill out the form on this page to participate in Hackboard 2017. Registration also gets you access to a Blackboard developer virtual machine, Hackathon Office Hours and FAQs.

2. Code something
The goal of Hackboard is to show off the versatility and strength that comes with the combination of IMS Global's Learning Tools Interoperability and Blackboard Learn's REST APIs. The integration submitted at the end of the Hackathon must combine both of these technologies. The judges will be using a rubric to judge each entry.

The basic tenets of the judging criteria are:

  • Innovation
  • User Experience
  • Quality Impact
  • Technical Difficulty
  • Presentation

3. Show us how it works
Create a short video of how your app works. The demo is an important part of the scoring, so be sure to submit your demo of your working application!

The Prizes
The Hackathon is open to anyone in the US and offers an Open Division and a Student Division. The Open Division will compete for the Kroner Cup trophy and $2000 USD, while the Student Division will allow college students in the US to compete against each other for a trip to New Orleans to receive the Fontaine trophy. The winning integration for each division, as voted on by the judging panel, will receive a free ticket to both DevCon and BbWorld and have a chance to stand on stage at DevCon in New Orleans and pitch their integrations to the audience in attendance. The attendees will vote for their favorite and the team with the most votes will be named the winner of the People's Choice Award. All winners will receive the cash prize and the trophy on the main stage during the closing ceremony of DevCon. In addition, the winners will be interviewed for DevCon Live, and have the change to take part in the Innovation Corner in the Exhibit Hall at BbWorld. For more information, visit the prizes page on the community site.
